Many times, HighwayStar Garage gets invited to local meets within the community that let us sit back, hang out with friends, and get to see some nice cars. Universal Technical Institute (or UTI) hosted their 2nd meet at the UTI facility in Orlando, FL, and invited HighwayStar Garage to vend at the event. As per usual, we brought out some of our heavy hitters, including HighwayStar Ollie’s Integra Type-R which won an award at the meet! Congratulations Ollie! HighwayStar Ramon decided to debut Nikki (his new BMW M5) that he had recently picked up. We will all miss Betty, but she is in good hands. Even HighwayStar R2-D2 was out for the festivities at the meet. Several things and vendors were out at this event to help promote the meet. RuckHouse and their Ruckus crew decide to stop by with some of their beautifully designed Ruckus’. And some of the other cars that attended the event: And last, some goofiness at the meet: The rest can be found here: HighwayStar Patrick Flickr: UTI Meet 9-14-13
Living in Florida, we sometimes take things for granted. Things like the abundance of beaches and (usually) bright sunshine (with the occasional afternoon showers). Luckily, I Love Driving Slow has taken full advantage of both of these things Florida has to offer us. Car and Beaches was hosted at Ruskin Park in Tampa, FL as a way to enjoy the cars that came out for this event, as well as enjoy the beach (or at least Tampa Bay) that was next to the park. As usual, HighwayStar Garage was there vending at the event with new prospects, as well as honored members. Betty and Roxanne made it out to the event to get some sun. As some of you know, Betty, unfortunately, is no longer with the HighwayStar family. No worries, she is in good hands. HighwayStar Ramon will debut his new girl some time soon when she is ready. Even our two wheel friends made it out to the event, even though there wasn’t much road to ride around on. This dragster 280 was pretty damn dope! And some of the other cars that came out to the event! And last but not least, a nice shot of some of the ladies there that went to the beach To see other photos from the event: HighwayStar Patrick’s Flickr – ILDS: Cars and Beaches 4

When does something stop being a hobby or a job or a toy? When do you stop being a child and grow into an adult? When this passion consumes you, when it’s all you can do and think of. When an idea completely takes over you, it haunts you and chases you. You can’t stop thinking about it. At times i have wished this idea left me. The memory of driving stays with me. I wanted at times to move past it and grow like my friends did. Settle down, go to college, become a scholar like my father and grandfather before me, but i can’t. I’ve loved and lost and this passion still remains. I cannot move past it. It’s all i think about, the road, the empty highway. The sun comes down, the headlights come on and the sound of the tires the bumps in the road moving the car. The steering wheel in your hands, your hands begin to sweat. The fantasy. I dreamed of becoming a better driver. I put time and money into parts that i think did the correct work to make me faster, but in reality it was me that needed to improve not the car. What I’m saying is, if an idea can move you so much that you become something else entirely. Make sure the idea is worth dying for because it will not leave you. It will be implanted with you and be passed on to your children. For me this idea has been driving. It has never left me as hard as I’ve tried. It’s consumed me since I was a child. When I drove my first car at 10, it was all I […]
**Normally, HighwayStar Manny writes these little tidbits on up while myself, HighwayStar Patrick, tries to capture the event through my “eye”. But, Manny decided that this should be written up by me to give another “perspective” to the event. Plus, Roxanne Racekor was being testy and demanding a burrito from Manny at the time, so he didn’t have the time to. 😉 ** There are very few big shows that all of us HighwayStars get to enjoy and hang out at out of the state of Florida. Southern Worthersee, or SoWo, is definitely one of them. Every year, Helen, Georgia is the destination for many VW’s/Audi’s/BMW’s and other vehicles arrive at to enjoy a weekend of cars, friends and local scenery. Many say H2Oi is a bigger show and has more ‘to do’ over all. BUT, SoWo is show that you want to go to if you want to enjoy and relax with old and new friends, while still enjoy all the beautiful vehicles that decide to populate this quiet, little town. The reason for SoWo’s popularity is the laid back atmosphere. Hell, there is a lazy river that you can tube down in the middle of town! People come from all over the US (Mark P. and 2300 miles or bust from Cali), and even Canada (crazy kids. Yes, that means you Corrigan 😉 ) to have a drink with old friends, and make new friends as well. SoWo is a place where you can unwind, enjoy the show, but also enjoy the town itself. A place where shops and business openly welcome the many people and cars that populate the town in that one weekend. With the influx of people and cars, and how […]

When does a car stop being a car and become something more? A passion? A love? A friend? This past weekend, a friend of mine referred to his car as a piece of metal and didn’t understand why people thought it was so great. I told him, that there comes a time for any builder, artist or person when something grows and takes a life of its own. Almost like a flower in a garden or a child in the womb. I believe, that depending on your dedication to something, it can grow from being an inanimate object to something that lives and breathes just like we do. At one time, the car you all know as Roxanne was a beater. Something that I would use to drive me back and forth to work and road trips to see my friends and family. She never complained, never hiccupped and never left my side. My other projects have left but she has remained. She has seen me through 3 relationships, carried me through some of the hardest days of my life and has never complained. It’s funny how we make a connection with a car. When you get in an accident you don’t say the car got in an accident, you say “I” was in an accident. We make such a connection with this device, a tool if you will, that it depends on you and you depend on it. The best word I can describe this with is an affair. My car, Roxanne has been with me for 5 years, 6 if you count the time she spent with my brother. What I’m getting at, is now, a lot of our younger generation seem to […]
