The anxiety. It wasn’t until the day before the rally when I was driving to Tampa that it hit me. What we are doing is highly illegal and there will be 95 other cars all trying to do the same thing as me. Get there first. I started thinking of the obvious things how I didn’t want to speed, go to jail, hurt someone, hurt my car. The more I thought about it the more I talked myself out of it. The roads we were taking we some of the most crowded in Florida. It was on a Saturday. The busiest time for driving, shopping and families. I told myself this was the worst idea I had ever had. Previous months before I had met Nate, one of the founders of the 8ball rally. He had told me what the idea was. High stakes poker run, 80s themed, run what you brung. He loved HighwayStar and what we stood for. The road and the stories they tell. Me being intoxicated when I met him I gladly signed on. I followed him and Rudy for almost a year til I actually met Rudy in person. The only word I can use to describe him is firecracker. This dude is about his business but is as live as they come. Weeks prior to the rally I decided not only to treat myself to a birthday present but to change the look of Roxanne. I sourced a new hood and front bumper but headaches, delayed shipments, crappy sellers led to a lot of sleepless nights and a week before he rally, the car breaks down. But 3 days before the rally everything was fixed. Thanks to the guys […]
Words and Photos by HighwayStar Patrick As 2013 winds down, and we at HighwayStar Garage get ready for the 2014 year, there is still one last car show for the year that we attended in Tampa, FL: I Love Driving Slow Winterfest 2013! Held at the Tampa Executive Airport, Winterfest is a car show for all makes and models, including our 2 wheeled friends (whether motorcycles or ruckus’s)! In addition to the show, ILDS once again has partnered up with Toys for Tots to raise donations for such a worthy cause! As one of the vendors at Winterfest, we were able to get a spot within the hanger that the show was hosted at. Ruckhouse was on hand with their many ruckus’s! Including Simply Clean’s all new redesigned ruckus! Ruff Brian brought out his Accord with his new reupholster leather interior Several beautiful Miatas made it out to the show including these guys: Unfortunately, this show was one of the last times we got to see Kam’s beautiful GS complete. Due to unforeseen events (we at HighwayStar Garage are glad Kam is okay), the GS is no more. We know Kam will come back bigger and better than before, but his GS will definitely be missed. All makes and models were out at the event, including this truck with a beautiful etched glass lift gate! And other vehicles that were out at the show: And last, but certainly not least, some shots of the people at Winterfest: Including our President, HighwayStar Manny, being “cute”, hahaha The rest of the photos can be found here: HighwayStar Patrick’s Flickr: ILDS – Winterfest 2013

We should be thankful everyday of our lives for what we have. friends family health etc. A friend wrote this today and I wanted to share it with the world enjoy.-pp Now that I have fully settled in, I have had some time to reflect and I have so much to be thankful for. When HighwayStar Steven introduced me to HighwayStar Manny and HighwayStar Ramon, I was basically done with the car scene. I was tired of the uppity people I raced with, I was beyond done with the children that make up the street scene and I was sick of people who were too afraid to actually drive their “show queens”. I built this car (Nadine) for me. Every other car that I built before her felt like it was for someone else. Which is why I didn’t have a problem letting them go when it came time to move out east. Ultimately I wanted a car that I could take out on the track and be competitive with, go on a 20+ hour road trip with and not worry about her breaking down, and turn some heads on the street while doing this. Before I met HighwayStar Garage, I thought I accomplished my task, but no one could see my vision. To everyone else Nadine was incomplete and unimpressive which infuriated me to no end. HighwaySTAR Garage saw me and my vision for what it was. With you I have found more than brothers for life, I have found an ideal that I could not fully articulate until I met all of you. This isn’t about being a Track Rat or a Show Queen or a Street King. It is about a bond between brothers and […]
Photos and Words by HighwayStar Patrick It’s not a competition. These words are the basis and motto of Simply Clean. It’s not a competition. Simply Clean was created with the idea that it didn’t matter what you had, ie. – ratrod, JDM, Euro, etc., but that you executed it cleanly. It’s not a competition. These words are what compelled Simply Clean to create an event where there was no trophies; No winners or losers; But instead, a large meet where people can come together, show off the hard work that they have, and meet old and new friends. Simply Clean 5 was held at Destination Daytona in Ormond Beach, FL for the second year in the row. Destination Daytona was kind enough to not only offer their parking spaces to this event, but also surround area parking for spectators, and their main pavilion to help house and show off many beautiful vehicles. For the event, much background planning was put into place to make sure this event ran as smoothly as it did. We at HighwayStar Garage would like to thank everyone that worked and contributed to make this event possible. With as many cars that showed up for both show parking and spectator parking, below is only a glimpse of what was there at Simply Clean 5. This year at the HighwayStar Garage booth, we brought out several of our big guns to display. We are all familiar with Roxanne Racekor, but Ramon’s new girl was on display for the first time since acquiring her! Also, Doritos, Ollie and Teddy brought their beautiful ladies out for display. Last, but definitely not least, Jon, our newest HighwayStar prospect, brought his beautiful NSX out to play! […]
Complete Custom Wheels (CCW) has been a stand out wheel company in the car community for some time now. Whether you are needing a track ready wheel, or a show quality wheel, CCW is ready to fulfill your needs. Locally owned and operated in Daytona Beach, FL, CCW was kind enough to open their facility once again this year to host a Pre-Meet the night before Simply Clean. Last year, CCW hosted a Pre-Meet which had a great turn out! This years Pre-Meet turn out was just as big, if not larger! The parking lot, just like last year, could not contain all the cars that showed up. Luckily, Volusia County PD was on site to help direct traffic during the meet. This Datsun 280 was killing it! This Rocket Bunny S13 which has been featured in Canibeat was on hand for the Pre-meet! Can’t go to CCW without seeing what Dehate has setup. And this year, once again, there is no disappointment with his beautiful Miata. As stated, whether tracking or showing, CCW has got you! CCW also has many of us HighwayStars rocking their beautiful wheels. Like HighwayStar Doritos and his beautiful S2K. And some more photos from the event: The rest of the photos from the event can be found here: HighwayStar Patrick’s Flickr: CCW Pre-Meet 2013
To everyone who might be upset or mad that didn’t get a good parking spot or their car didn’t get chosen for simply clean 5, I ask you this. Why are you modifying cars? The point of SC is a meet. Not a show. This isn’t a competition between Nissans and Hondas and Toyotas. This is a celebration. A celebration of another year and a collaboration of the tuners, builders, racers, hot rodders and rat rodders to show the world what one state does. Not for profit. Not for glamour. Not for infamy. To show everyone why we all started playing with cars as kids, for the love of automobiles. So I ask you again, is your heart really in it? Or are you looking for the attention that’s lacking somewhere else? Kick start my rock and roll heart.
