Simply Clean 6

Words and photos by HighwayStar Patrick. Simply Clean at Destination Daytona has always been one of the favorite shows that the HighwayStar family love to attend every year! The show isn’t about awards, contest, or trophies. It’s a show about coming together and hanging with friends: old and new, near and far. Hosted by Mr. Simply Clean himself, Nickoli, and many of his close friends, family and staff, we here at HighwayStar Garage would like to thank him and his staff for all their hard work they put into this event every year! This year (just like last year), a pre-meet was held by and at CCW Wheels in Daytona. CCW was very generous and gracious in opening their doors to the public Friday night, after business hours. And the highlight of this year’s pre-meet, at least for us in the HighwayStar family and friends, was HighwayStar Steven/Doritos unveiling Summer, his S2000, with its newly added wide body kit! This kit, which was installed by De’Caudella’s Auto Body Shop, was something in the works by Steven for some time now. Steven kept it such a closely guarded secret, that, even the HighwayStar family wasn’t full aware that he had gotten the kit installed! Congratulations to Steven and his car Summer for such an awesome make over! Saturday morning. Weather was a little on the cool side for us Floridians that morning. But, that doesn’t stop the plethora of people waiting to get in, even at 7am in the morning (even though general admission doesn’t start till 9am, haha. Sorry guys.). People from all over the state, as well as all over the country, come to take part in this event. Not because they have anything […]

The Auto Combine 2014

Words and photos by HighwayStar Patrick Back in 2012, a show popped up Green Cove Springs, FL called the Auto Combine. The premise: a fun car get together with food trucks, music, raffles, and …. dodge ball? Fast forward to 2014, and the Auto Combine is back!…. minus the dodge ball, haha. The Auto Combine this year was held in the same place as previous: an old abandoned industrial lot with some derelict buildings, a huge parking lot area, and an abandoned hangar bay in Green Cove Springs, FL. Even with the Florida heat and afternoon rain showers, lots of fun was had, attendance exceeded last show’s almost 1000 car attendance, and some beautiful cars showed up. Here are only a few that we were able to capture between the heat the rain: Special thanks to Noah Dellilo of Funk Fashion Clothing for setting this show up! Also, thanks to all that helped organize and maintain the event, as well as the vendors that showed up and weathered, well, the Florida weather! ILDS Cars and Beaches 5

Words and pictures by HighwayStar Patrick Summer time in Florida: most people think of it as sunny blue skies and lots of people at the beach. BUT, they forget the part of the 1 million percent humidity and the late afternoon/early evening showers! That’s okay. Because summer time also kicks off car show season! One of these shows this year was the I Love Driving Slow (ILDS) Cars and Beaches which is held at EG Simmons Park down in Apollo Beach, FL. Unfortunately, HighwayStar Garage did not vend at this show this year as they did previously, but we were down there to hang out with friends, old and new, and to take in the sights of what decided to roll down there. We were thankful that our friends at Simply Clean let us hang out at their booth for most of the show. It is always a fun time hanging out with these guys, and some times can get a little wild. But that is to be explained later on. 😉 Forge Motorsports was in full attendance at the show this year and brought their Mk1 Berg Cup out to play! ILDS Faction was in full swing with some of their heavy hitters! You can always find cars repping HighwayStar Garage at just about any car show in Florida now! Like this awesome big wing Miata! Camber much? Apparently was rocking roughly -16 degrees camber in the rear. 😀 And then you get some fun cars like this widebody Miata by Travis Howard… …Or this dumped Ford truck on air… …Or this ridiculously clean VW Mk6 from our good friend Paul who also is the creator and host of the Eurotripper Event! As the […]

I Love Driving Slow: Winterfest 2013

Words and Photos by HighwayStar Patrick As 2013 winds down, and we at HighwayStar Garage get ready for the 2014 year, there is still one last car show for the year that we attended in Tampa, FL: I Love Driving Slow Winterfest 2013! Held at the Tampa Executive Airport, Winterfest is a car show for all makes and models, including our 2 wheeled friends (whether motorcycles or ruckus’s)! In addition to the show, ILDS once again has partnered up with Toys for Tots to raise donations for such a worthy cause! As one of the vendors at Winterfest, we were able to get a spot within the hanger that the show was hosted at. Ruckhouse was on hand with their many ruckus’s! Including Simply Clean’s all new redesigned ruckus! Ruff Brian brought out his Accord with his new reupholster leather interior Several beautiful Miatas made it out to the show including these guys: Unfortunately, this show was one of the last times we got to see Kam’s beautiful GS complete. Due to unforeseen events (we at HighwayStar Garage are glad Kam is okay), the GS is no more. We know Kam will come back bigger and better than before, but his GS will definitely be missed. All makes and models were out at the event, including this truck with a beautiful etched glass lift gate! And other vehicles that were out at the show: And last, but certainly not least, some shots of the people at Winterfest: Including our President, HighwayStar Manny, being “cute”, hahaha The rest of the photos can be found here: HighwayStar Patrick’s Flickr: ILDS – Winterfest 2013

Simply Clean 5

Photos and Words by HighwayStar Patrick It’s not a competition. These words are the basis and motto of Simply Clean. It’s not a competition. Simply Clean was created with the idea that it didn’t matter what you had, ie. – ratrod, JDM, Euro, etc., but that you executed it cleanly. It’s not a competition. These words are what compelled Simply Clean to create an event where there was no trophies; No winners or losers; But instead, a large meet where people can come together, show off the hard work that they have, and meet old and new friends. Simply Clean 5 was held at Destination Daytona in Ormond Beach, FL for the second year in the row. Destination Daytona was kind enough to not only offer their parking spaces to this event, but also surround area parking for spectators, and their main pavilion to help house and show off many beautiful vehicles. For the event, much background planning was put into place to make sure this event ran as smoothly as it did. We at HighwayStar Garage would like to thank everyone that worked and contributed to make this event possible. With as many cars that showed up for both show parking and spectator parking, below is only a glimpse of what was there at Simply Clean 5. This year at the HighwayStar Garage booth, we brought out several of our big guns to display. We are all familiar with Roxanne Racekor, but Ramon’s new girl was on display for the first time since acquiring her! Also, Doritos, Ollie and Teddy brought their beautiful ladies out for display. Last, but definitely not least, Jon, our newest HighwayStar prospect, brought his beautiful NSX out to play! […]

CCW Pre-Meet for Simply Clean 5

Complete Custom Wheels (CCW) has been a stand out wheel company in the car community for some time now. Whether you are needing a track ready wheel, or a show quality wheel, CCW is ready to fulfill your needs. Locally owned and operated in Daytona Beach, FL, CCW was kind enough to open their facility once again this year to host a Pre-Meet the night before Simply Clean. Last year, CCW hosted a Pre-Meet which had a great turn out! This years Pre-Meet turn out was just as big, if not larger! The parking lot, just like last year, could not contain all the cars that showed up. Luckily, Volusia County PD was on site to help direct traffic during the meet. This Datsun 280 was killing it! This Rocket Bunny S13 which has been featured in Canibeat was on hand for the Pre-meet! Can’t go to CCW without seeing what Dehate has setup. And this year, once again, there is no disappointment with his beautiful Miata. As stated, whether tracking or showing, CCW has got you! CCW also has many of us HighwayStars rocking their beautiful wheels. Like HighwayStar Doritos and his beautiful S2K. And some more photos from the event: The rest of the photos from the event can be found here: HighwayStar Patrick’s Flickr: CCW Pre-Meet 2013

Universal Technical Institute (UTI) Meet: Safety First! 2013

Many times, HighwayStar Garage gets invited to local meets within the community that let us sit back, hang out with friends, and get to see some nice cars. Universal Technical Institute (or UTI) hosted their 2nd meet at the UTI facility in Orlando, FL, and invited HighwayStar Garage to vend at the event. As per usual, we brought out some of our heavy hitters, including HighwayStar Ollie’s Integra Type-R which won an award at the meet! Congratulations Ollie! HighwayStar Ramon decided to debut Nikki (his new BMW M5) that he had recently picked up. We will all miss Betty, but she is in good hands. Even HighwayStar R2-D2 was out for the festivities at the meet. Several things and vendors were out at this event to help promote the meet. RuckHouse and their Ruckus crew decide to stop by with some of their beautifully designed Ruckus’. And some of the other cars that attended the event: And last, some goofiness at the meet: The rest can be found here: HighwayStar Patrick Flickr: UTI Meet 9-14-13

I Love Driving Slow: Cars and Beaches 4

Living in Florida, we sometimes take things for granted. Things like the abundance of beaches and (usually) bright sunshine (with the occasional afternoon showers). Luckily, I Love Driving Slow has taken full advantage of both of these things Florida has to offer us. Car and Beaches was hosted at Ruskin Park in Tampa, FL as a way to enjoy the cars that came out for this event, as well as enjoy the beach (or at least Tampa Bay) that was next to the park. As usual, HighwayStar Garage was there vending at the event with new prospects, as well as honored members. Betty and Roxanne made it out to the event to get some sun. As some of you know, Betty, unfortunately, is no longer with the HighwayStar family. No worries, she is in good hands. HighwayStar Ramon will debut his new girl some time soon when she is ready. Even our two wheel friends made it out to the event, even though there wasn’t much road to ride around on. This dragster 280 was pretty damn dope! And some of the other cars that came out to the event! And last but not least, a nice shot of some of the ladies there that went to the beach To see other photos from the event: HighwayStar Patrick’s Flickr – ILDS: Cars and Beaches 4

    The Idea The Idea

    The Idea

The Idea

When does something stop being a hobby or a job or a toy? When do you stop being a child and grow into an adult? When this passion consumes you, when it’s all you can do and think of. When an idea completely takes over you, it haunts you and chases you. You can’t stop thinking about it. At times i have wished this idea left me. The memory of driving stays with me. I wanted at times to move past it and grow like my friends did. Settle down, go to college, become a scholar like my father and grandfather before me, but i can’t. I’ve loved and lost and this passion still remains. I cannot move past it. It’s all i think about, the road, the empty highway. The sun comes down, the headlights come on and the sound of the tires the bumps in the road moving the car. The steering wheel in your hands, your hands begin to sweat. The fantasy. I dreamed of becoming a better driver. I put time and money into parts that i think did the correct work to make me faster, but in reality it was me that needed to improve not the car. What I’m saying is, if an idea can move you so much that you become something else entirely. Make sure the idea is worth dying for because it will not leave you. It will be implanted with you and be passed on to your children. For me this idea has been driving. It has never left me as hard as I’ve tried. It’s consumed me since I was a child. When I drove my first car at 10, it was all I […]

HighwayStar does SoWo 2013

**Normally, HighwayStar Manny writes these little tidbits on up while myself, HighwayStar Patrick, tries to capture the event through my “eye”. But, Manny decided that this should be written up by me to give another “perspective” to the event. Plus, Roxanne Racekor was being testy and demanding a burrito from Manny at the time, so he didn’t have the time to. 😉 ** There are very few big shows that all of us HighwayStars get to enjoy and hang out at out of the state of Florida. Southern Worthersee, or SoWo, is definitely one of them. Every year, Helen, Georgia is the destination for many VW’s/Audi’s/BMW’s and other vehicles arrive at to enjoy a weekend of cars, friends and local scenery. Many say H2Oi is a bigger show and has more ‘to do’ over all. BUT, SoWo is show that you want to go to if you want to enjoy and relax with old and new friends, while still enjoy all the beautiful vehicles that decide to populate this quiet, little town. The reason for SoWo’s popularity is the laid back atmosphere. Hell, there is a lazy river that you can tube down in the middle of town! People come from all over the US (Mark P. and 2300 miles or bust from Cali), and even Canada (crazy kids. Yes, that means you Corrigan 😉 ) to have a drink with old friends, and make new friends as well. SoWo is a place where you can unwind, enjoy the show, but also enjoy the town itself. A place where shops and business openly welcome the many people and cars that populate the town in that one weekend. With the influx of people and cars, and how […]
